Sophia has worked in the field of psychology for over 10 years. She graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in Psychology and completed her M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Boston College, with a concentration in Mental Health Counseling. She is currently a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the United States and a Registered Psychologist in Hong Kong.
Sophia has provided treatment and counseling to her clients regarding a wide range of issues and subjects, including depression and anxiety disorders, adjustment/transitional difficulties, behavioral modification and management, relationship issues and parenting skills. Her client base spans children and adolescents through adults and she counsels individuals, families and couples. Sophia’s psychotherapeutic approach is drawn from several different schools, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy and focuses on the specific needs of each client. Her goal is to empower and support her clients, increase their self-awareness and insight and build on their ability to cope.
Sophia has extensive experience working in a variety of settings including private group practices, adolescent and adult residential programs, a child and adolescent partial hospital program, an international school and an adult psychiatric in-patient unit. Prior to returning to live in Hong Kong, where she spent much of her childhood, Sophia practiced in both the United States and Greece.
Sophia is certified in the MBTI® (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) and the Strong Interest Inventory® and is able to provide comprehensive career assessments for students and transitioning adults. Through these assessments, clients are able to explore career choices and gain further insight into their own personalities and preferences.
